Design Notes

We recorded 7 tunes at Creative World Recording with just the official members of the Charlie Morris Band at the time (Eric Elsner, Andrew Lack, Kevin Wilder). Shortly after this, Kevin left us for Indiana, or Ohio, or some such fool place. Then I wrote A House Divided, and we did another session to cut that and to redo 4 Horsemen.

We also had 2.5 tunes already in the can, and thereby hangs a tale: during the recording of the Bluescoast Sessions, we had a date with a certain keyboard player at the Springs Theater studio in Tampa. The keyboard man did not attend, so we cut Y'all Come Over for Dinner and Yet Another Train anyway. Ryan Lack, son of Andrew (thus, Andreides) was on bass.

The upshot of all this is that we had several tunes that were lacking keyboard tracks, so I tapped both the Rice brothers, Ross and Devin, to add some tracks long-distance. Markus Baumer, of the Swiss CMB, was visiting from Switzerland, and cut one piano track. Some harp from honorary band member TC Carr, and some BVs from canaries Amanda Frick and Mikay, and she was ready to mix.

The astute listener will have noticed that there are two almost-identical versions of Y'all Come Over. We had two takes we liked, so we kept 'em both. Also that two songs, Neighbors and The War is Over, are recycled from The Forest.

“We Americans have always held a lot of conflicting opinions, but tolerance of other peoples’ views seems to be at an all-time low. I’d like to see less outrage, less judgment and more togetherness."
